Frequently asked questions
RYS is a 10 part lesson sequence plus 30 minute presentation. Each lesson takes between 30 and 60 minutes with extension opportunities – or fast track it via the RYS workshop.
All habitats are important. No matter how large or small your area, your local species will benefit from improving the available habitats – and we have a Champion Animal to suit your space!
An initial presentation ensures all your students understand the baseline information to excel in the program.
We want teachers to feel confident in leading this program.
The learning sequence provides thorough explanation via examples, graphics and suggested links that are supported by videos, Fact Files and Project Cards. You’ve got this!
The sequence is mirrored in the student workbook. We are also on hand to support you throughout the program. Got a question or some feedback? Give us a call!
The animal is selected by our experts via a search of local species occurrence, assessment of local connectivity, and species traits. We suggest an existing local species (or multiple species over a number of classes) that would benefit from the outcomes of this program.
The lesson sequence asks key inquiry questions and highlights an outcomes matrix. It follows the 5 E’s learning framework to guide scientific inquiry. ( Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate).
We appreciate that homeschools will often be small classes with a limited number of children, and the minimum charge for our workshops / resource packs may be out of reach for these schools.
As a homeschool, you are welcome to team up with other homeschools in your area and to purchase our incursions or resource packs as a group to reduce the cost.
The incursion will be delivered at one of the homeschools. If you opt for a resource pack, this can be delivered to one of the homeschools that can then distribute the resources to the other participating homeschools.
