A new standard for sustainable Palm Oil

05 November 2018
Palm oil has received a lot of attention in the last few weeks, and we are proud to say that a member of our JGIA team, Natasha Coutts, has been plugged in representing JGI in the Australasian Responsible Palm Oil Network.
Recently, there was a vote on the new Principles and Criteria for the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) with the new standard taking immediate effect.

Adoption of RSPO Principles and Criteria (P&C) for the Production of Sustainable Palm Oil (2018).

This newly adopted standard aims to strengthen social development, environmental protection, and economic prosperity across the sustainable palm oil value chain. Additionally, changes have been made to ensure the P&C is more systematic and clear, terms are more user-friendly, and there are comprehensive interconnections with the key pillars of RSPO’s Theory of Change (ToC): Prosperity, People and Planet.

Our colleague Liana wrote a great piece in the Conversation which sheds more light on this issue.
