What is the Mini Grants Program?

Inspired by the incredible life and conservation legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall, Roots & Shoots Mini Grants is a rewarding, seed-funding initiative to promote respect and compassion for all living things in Australia.

Bring your big idea to life with a $200 grant from the Une Parkinson Foundation and Conservation Landholders Tasmania, along with mentoring from the Roots & Shoots Australia network. Together we can make the world a better place; one veggie patch, school initiative and family farm at a time!

With teams in every state across Australia, we have conservation leaders positioned to help you on your changemaking journey. Projects come in many different shapes and sizes, so reach out if you need a hand, and we’re here to help you design and launch your project idea!

Past Mini Grant winners include everything from wombat conservation projects, sewing warm beanies for those living on city streets during winter, filling classrooms with colourful indoor plants, creating bee habitat gardens at Scout Halls, permaculture projects and so much more!

Frequently Asked Questions

Mini Grants are available to Roots & Shoots Australia members only. Becoming a member is easy and completely free! Simply register HERE to be eligible to apply for a Roots & Shoots Mini Grant.

You are eligible to apply if you are in Australia, a member of Roots & Shoots, your project is youth lead, and it will create positive outcomes for animals, people, or the environment.

No, anyone in Australia can apply! Individuals, community groups, school groups, non-profit groups, and families can apply if their project meets the eligibility criteria. Scout groups, families and youth leaders are most welcome.

Members will be notified of the status of their application after the deadline has passed.

Your Mini Grant will be deposited electronically into a bank account nominated by you.

You should receive your mini grant within 6 weeks of the application deadline.

 

Yes, successful applicants are required to submit a mid year report and a final report by the end of the year. All information will be provided in your Mini Grants Welcome Pack.

Roots & Shoots campaigns come in all shapes and sizes. If your campaign continues beyond the final report deadline, simply report on what you have accomplished at that time. Be sure to also include a description of your goals for the future. 

If you miss the deadline for 2024 you will need to wait until the 2025 application round opens.
